description
You have walked farther along the pathway and are now looking at the east bank of the river. This picture shows the old Pillsbury "A" mill. You can see a tunnel going into the river bank and under the mill. I believe this was originally used to divert the river under the mill to power it. This is the same "Pillsbury" that is now a food services giant - the ones with the doughboy.

commentsAaron Peterson Minnetonka, MN -- 2003-07-14 You're right about the tunnel. It's an old tailrace, where the water came out after turning the water wheels inside the mill. The water would have come in through a similar tunnel (a headrace) above the falls. Anonymous -- 2006-04-29 This tunnel was also referred to as Chutes Canal{Chutes Square is on Central ave.} There is a large cave like area inside. Used to be flat bottom boat rides here,,like the Olde Mill ride at the mn state fairgrounds. Post a comment on this picture | |
