This chicken belongs to a family in Wisconsin. I can't recall the variety (species), but it's being kept as a free range chicken for egg production.

This particular bird is known throughout England and the West coast of the United States as an "Auracana" or "Aracauna".
It is a medium sized bird and very popular - particularly at Easter time - as it is the only known chicken that lays colored eggs...green, red and deep blue!

Wow. I was absolutely flabbergasted at the vast volume of emails I received on this (all very positive - thankyou). Some folks had difficulty getting through so - if you have any further questions regarding chickens of all types/free range eggs/and all things (fowl related)organic - you can contact me at Englishmanchris@Netzero.com.
Cheers

Hi Chris,
My husband and I have 8 chickens on our small apple orchard. THis summer he built a fabulous coop for his girls. We have a chicken that looks just like the one you posted... she too is an Aracauna. Her name is Cora. SHe is a great layer...beautiful green eggs and nice personality. We also have silver-laced Wyandote (like in the above background picture of the black one)...her name is Oprah! We also have 3 light Brahmas that are laying some big gorgeous brown eggs. We are having lots of fun with them and we enjoy all the funny things they do. It is quite a scene when one of them finds a toad to eat. The very cold weather and lots of snow is a challenge some days but by putting hay out, they have places to scratch and come out and get some sun. They are a hearty bunch of chickens and supplement our diet well! (eggs only)

Hi Jackie. It sounds as though your little flock is very happy and content. I am very, very happy that you only eat the eggs!!
