You are looking west from the south side of the Santa Monica Pier. The buildings at the end of the pier are the
Santa Monica Harbor Patrol,
Santa Monica Pier Bait & Tackle Company,
and a restaurant (Mariasol Cocina Mexicana). Pacific Park (an amusement park) is behind you.

Even though I live some 60 miles away, the weekly trips to this pier is worth it. Your pictures tend to give the impression to the uniformed that it is dreary here on the pier. In the summer time this place is a caophony of sight and sound As A matter of fact, tomorrow 7.1.03 is my next trip down there.
I would like permission to download and use in my personal scrap book, photo #2610 Santa Monica Pier Carousel. I don't seem to be able to get inside the fence to take a picture that good. The scrap book covers the three summers I have been taking the special bus down there to spend the day. When it is cloudy or not so nice I just sit on the Pier and watch the world go by, and believe me, the diversity makes you think the whole world is indeed going by.
In any case, thanks for the web site, I like it. Regards... R. West
