description

You are inside Minneapolis City Hall, This photo was taken near the 4th street entrance. I believe the statue is meant to depict the father of the Mississippi River.

You are very close with your description. The Mississippi is the "Father of Waters" and this is an allegorical representation of the river itself.

Everytime I come to the Twin Cities I always go to Hiawatha to see the Statue of Hiawatha.

My husband is from Denmark, and we moved here less than a year ago and he (well, actually we both do) has terribly missed the wonderful Danish rugbroed (or rye bread in english) and have been to MANY different bakery's, even down to Elk Horn Iowa, which is suppose to be this very authentic Danish town, and we havn't been able to find anything that even resembles it, until today when we went to Blackey's Bakery!!! THEN...to our wonder we found the same sweet treats that we use to get on occasions in Denmark, and they taste to perfection. John had a wonderful conversation with the bakerys owner in Dansk (Danish) and we just enjoyed a Danish open faced sandwich on our freshly baked rugbroed!
We recommend all of you to try the wonderful and truely authentic Danish Rye Bread not to mention wonderful cakes and kroansekage (which they have in small daily bite sizes, or make the traditional Danish wedding cakes!) and is even better than those we have had in Denmark! Congratulations and mange tak (many thanks) to your amazing baking skills and for never looseing your Danish heritage way of baking.
    Sincerely,
Happy to find a little home here! :) Jennifer & John

I attended Marshall High from 63 to 69 minus a year or so when we moved and came back. I remember the House of Hanson and of couse the great Bakery. The last year I attended there was my senior year and the first year it was merged with University High. Sorry to say I did not like it. Too many changes at one time. But I do wish I would have stayed on to graduate. I dropped out, got married and had twins. I do have fond memories of Marshall high.

I worked here when it was Ghost Manor run by the Jaycees in the early 80's. Dang, those were the days. They did a great job restoring it. No offence I was like 14 and it was very badly trashed. I loved that house:)

I was fortunate enough in my life time to work as a kid at the ritz when it was the cricket theater as a sweep boy, that was I think 1979, lived right on 13th and university, then as a teenager worked at the hollywood. The problem with these properties is there is no return for the price they want. A renovation job on either building would be in the millions, not to mention the current condition of either with basically being abandoned. It barely paid to have Hollywood be a 1$ movie house, just ask the owners...the last ones. I lost my job when they closed the doors. It wasn't in terrible shape then, the fountain that worked in the 50's was covered by wood, the projection booth was seriously in need of some new walls, but the biggest concern here is condensation. You don't let a theater of that age breath and the walls turn to powder... al the sound proofing is just much. No offence and hell I treasure the past too, but we've had A&M talk of taking over grainbelt etc... all these investors, but the bottom line is it won't turn a profit...if it doesn't make you bankrupt.
