Quiapo Church is Famous for the Black Nazarene, a Large Crucifix of Black Wood Carved in Mexico and brought to the Philippines by the Spaniards in the 17th Century. Miracles have been attributed to this 400-year-old statue. Everyday, especially on Fridays, thousands of Catholics come to pay homage, which reaches its peak on January 9th Feast of the Black Nazarene. The area around the church is one big flea market of various assortments of goods and a haven of locally-made clothes, export overruns, handicrafts, medicinal herbs, religious icons, colorful candles, different kinds of flowers and household items.
