You are on the west side of Hennepin, looking northeast at the Plymouth building. Across the street to the right is City Center(out of frame). This picture was also taken during the snowstorm on January 19th. White-out conditions obscure the Hennepin Ave. suspension bridge, which would otherwise be visible in the distance.

I love the historical perspective you have given to so many picture by other links and by comments by people who lived in the area in the past. I also like seeing the seasonal changes and interiors of buildings. Thank you so much for this wonderful site.

Does this picture ever bring back memories! I began my career in the Plymouth Building in 1969, and can remember a good number of times trudging through the snow just like in this picture. And it was always a pleasure to slip next door to Murray's restaurant after work for a little "attitude adjustment." Also, it was nice to be close to the Nicollet Mall for shopping at Powers, Donaldsons, and Daytons, or just to take a noontime stroll.

From where this photo was taken, you must have been standing at the (probably former) location of Schinder's, a newspaper stand that had every daily imaginable, and loads of comic books.
Just a block from Dayton's, Donaldson's (caddycorner), Kresge's and Woolworth.

Ahhh...the plymouth. One of minneapolis' finest and most ignored buildings. I wish they would resotre it one again to its 1920s glory. The ground floor is now home to an olive garden.
