The Ole Bull has been completely refurbished, completed on Oct. 15, 2000. A celebration of the restoration was held on Oct. 21, 2000 at Loring Park on a beautiful crisp fall Saturday. Over 200 people attended the ceremonies that included Dr. John Thomsen playing on an original Ole Bull violin. Planted around the base of the statue are evergreens and in the spring the Friends of Loring Park will be adding flowers to the planting area. A Friends of Ole Bull Committee has been established to assist in raising funds to provide assistance for the continued care of the statue. The Ole Bull statue was restored by The Midwest Conserveration Association.
Visitors to the statue will be very pleased to see that Ole Bull has his violin restored to its former glory of 107 years ago and he wears clothes showing the fine bronze casting done by Jakob Fjelde. A stop well worth taking in.

Ole is my 6th cousin, 6 times removed, related to me through Jens Andersen Bull, my 11th great-grandfather. It is nice to see this statue restored.

I've been searching to find information
on Ole Bull. My parents own the Andresen place in Stewardson Twp., Potter County. I'm happy to have found

So pleased to see this memorial to Bull in the U.S. I am writing a new book on Bull's Pennsylvania colony (Oleana, 1852-53) in time for the sesqicentennial celebration next year. All information is welcome as I seek to make this the most complete history of that colony. Jon Raymond, I'd welcome a phone call or email! Phone 814-274-6329. Email: pheimel@adelphia.net

I have just found your site and was wondering if anyone could tell me a little about the type of violin that Ole Bull played.
I have a violin that was handed down to me. It has been in my family for over 100 years. It says "Ole Bull" on the neck.
Any information would be greatly appriciated.

Its a beautiful statue. Its unfortunate it faces an ugly 1980's "corporate freeway style" glass-n-brick building.

  • Paul W. Heimel   Coudersport PA -- 2002-11-01

Yes, it is a wonderful statue. And there is a new memorial to Ole Bull, unveiled as part of this: The successful Ole Bull Colony Sesquicentennial Celebration has come and
gone. We are proud that our book, "Oleana: The Ole Bull Colony," was a focal
point of this special event. Details can be found at the following link from
    the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.

The Sesquicentennial Celebration was a magical event, currently being
highlighted by the Royal Norwegian Embassy at its website:

Please pass this on to those who might be interested. Wholesaler inquiries
are welcome. Photos available. Book orders, at $12.95 plus $2.00 shipping, should be sent to:

I am a direct decendant of Ole Bull and it is great to see such a statue, if only I had done a little more research I may have been able to visit the statue on US/Canadian trip last year

  • Doris Stensland   Canton, SD -- 2006-04-08

I am interested in this statue. I am writing a book about a musician named Prof. Indseth who immigrated from Norway. In the records I find he entertained Ole Bull's son, Alexander, when he came to USA for the dedication of this statue in I think 1897? I would like more information on the dedication. Did Alexander also have a violin concert in Mpls then?

This is a beautiful statue and I enjoyed learning about Ole Bull (your son, my friend Ben, sent me the link to this site) I read more on norway.org. and found his story fascinating...his exceptional talent and his dream for "New Norway". I'd love to read the poem your grandmother wrote. Could you post it to the site?

  • Hermod H. Monsen   Skien, Norway -- 2009-07-30

We are definitely going to have a look at this beautiful statue when we go to Norsk Hostfest in Minot in Sept 2009.

  • Judy Brown   California -- 2009-09-10
