Uptown is a commercial district centered around the intersection of Lake Street and Hennepin Avenue in south Minneapolis. It's known for trendy clothing and furniture stores, hair salons, and coffee shops. There are bars with live local music and several movie theaters. It has an annual art fair, organized by the Uptown Association. The large "UPTOWN" marquee rising vertically from the Uptown theater is a local landmark that helps give the district a unique identity.
